Our Story

Who we are

Big Data Theory is a pioneer in education and career transformation, specialising in what our name suggests – data. The leading source for training, staffing, and career transitions, we foster a flourishing community of professionals pursuing the data careers they love.

What began as a small academy, formerly called Singapore Data Science Academy (SDSA), in 2018 has since grown into an international learning experience with over 1,000 graduates.

As individuals and companies struggle to compete in an increasingly technological economy, Big Data Theory provides award-winning, dynamic training to close the global skills gap.

We are a proud member of the CPD accreditation body based in the United Kingdom. Established in 1996, The CPD Certification Service is the independent CPD accreditation centre working across all sectors, disciplines and further learning applications. Our courses go through an accreditation process thats takes an impartial and objective overview of structure and value to ensure full conformity to CPD guidelines. Our mission

To empower lives through providing greater access to data related education.

Education should be the best investment you make in your future—and at Big Data Theory, we’re committed to helping you learn all the data skills you need to change yours for the better. Through online or physical classes, we provide the skills, community, and immersive, outcomes-driven curriculum you need to launch a career in the field of data.

Big Data Theory, formerly known as SDSA, was founded in 2018 by a group of NUS alumni, who are passionate in providing greater access of data related education to both technical and non-technical folks. They came together with a shared mission: to create an alternative education model that provided students with the 21st century data skills necessary to succeed in a booming data world, with success tied directly to getting students data-related jobs. Alongside a scrappy community of students eager for a new way of learning, they launched Big Data Theory – where they held their first lesson in one of Singapore Management University's classrooms.

And we’ve proven that this model can work – with nearly all job-seeking graduates across our programs beginning fulfilling careers at leading companies like Accenture, Singtel, and Shopee.

Our commitment to expand accessibility and diversity in classrooms and boardrooms doesn’t stop there. We’ve pushed to increase access to our transformative education by offering in-house scholarships and partnering with companies' corporate social responsibility arms to provide our students with subsidised fees.

In 2019, we took our classroom online with our own, gamified online learning platform, expanding access to our programs to people outside of Singapore. Now, those previously excluded from the education model which requires physical presence, like people holding full-time jobs, can now access data careers through our online programs. Technology is reshaping the way we learn, study, and work, and Big Data Theory is proud to be at the forefront of this change. And, we’re just getting started.
